Hmm.. so you want to boost your search traffic?
Well, for that you’ll have to first write a compelling blog description.
And the fact that you’re reading this post already shows that you are ready for it.
So why wait any further?
In this post, I’ll show you how to add a blog description, along with some blog description examples, tips, and quotes.
So let’s get started.
What is a blog description?
A blog description can be thought of as a quick summary of your blog.
In a few words, it tells the user what the entire blog is about, its goal, and the advantage it provides.
Why is a blog description important?
Not just one but there are numerous reasons why a blog description is important. Here are some.
1. It increases your CTR
The click-through-rate, or CTR, is the proportion of users who click on a link to the total number of users who view it.
For example, if 100 people saw a link and 5 of them clicked on it, the CTR is 5%
Got it? Nice.
So, in a nutshell, your CTR increases when you write a compelling description that persuades the user to click your link, bringing in more visitors.
2. It helps in SEO
Search engines love websites with excellent blog descriptions and a blog with a high CTR is always ranked higher.
As a result, by writing a blog description, you will improve your website’s SEO performance in the index.
3. Attract the right audience
There is no doubt that having a variety of visitors is beneficial to a blog.
However, if you want to increase your sales and conversions, you must concentrate on attracting the “right” audience.
So by writing a relevant description, you inform users about the blog’s topic and who will benefit from it, thereby attracting the right audience.

It is a description that appears below your blog’s homepage link in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page).

It is a description that appears in SERP below your blog post’s link.

Tips on How to Write a Blog Description?
A good blog description can boost your CTR and bring in more readers, whereas a bad one can do the opposite.
That is why learning to write a good description is essential.
Let’s share some tips on how to write a blog description.
Tip #1 – Include your main keyword
What’s your blog about?
What is the most important topic of your blog?
To write the perfect description, you should first answer some of these questions to clarify your topic.
After that, your next task will be to determine the main keyword on which you should focus your blog.
For example, “travel” could be your primary topic, while “budget travel” could be your primary keyword.
Add that keyword to your blog’s description
Tip #2 – Mention the benefits
Readers want to know the advantages they’ll be getting from your blog before clicking on it.
That is why it is such a good idea to always mention the reader’s benefit in your description.
Using the previous example of “budget travel,” your blog description should state that it will “help the reader in traveling around the world at the lowest possible cost.”
Tip #3 – Tell ’em what your blog is about
Now, what exactly is a blog description? It is simply a summary of your blog. Right? Yes.
As a result, your blog description must inform the reader about your blog and the topics covered in it.
There should be no misunderstanding; your blog description should make it clear to the reader what your blog is all about.
Tip #4 – Provide proof
When you include proof of why your blog is the best among the rest, it builds trust in the minds of your readers.
That is why proof is so effective at increasing your CTR.
If you have done something credible that your readers would appreciate, don’t be afraid to include it in your blog description.
Tip #5 – Match your blog’s personality
Every blog has its own personality in terms of how it interacts with its readers, the tone and language of the posts, and the overall feel of the blog.
Make sure your blog description reflects that personality.
Tip #6 – Include Power Words
Power words are said to boost conversion rates by 12.7%.
That is why including some power words in your blog description can be such a good idea
Here are some examples of power words.
- Now
- Free
- Today
- Plus!
- Success
- Money
- Guarantee
- You
- Instant
- Effective
- Killer
Tip #7 – Use Questions
Readers are sometimes more receptive to questions than to standard sentences.
Why? because questions feel like a conversation.
When writing a blog description, try to include a question to make it feel more like a conversation and increase engagement.
Tip #8 – Don’t use Clickbait
Let me tell you something: people HATE clickbaits.
Some bloggers use clickbait headlines in the belief that it will benefit them.
However, clickbait only backfires because it misleads audiences by showing and providing a different thing.
This creates a negative image in the minds of your audience, leading them to never return.
Tip #9 – Keep it Short and Sweet
Blog descriptions are limited in length.
You can’t just hit the keys and write as long a blog description as you want.
The ideal blog description has a character limit of 160 characters.
So try to write as good description as you can within the characters limit.

Pro Tip to write blog descriptions in a smooth process
- Head over to Google and type your main keyword.
- Examine all of the blogs and their descriptions appearing in the SERP. Sweet.
- Make a note of their blog descriptions and try to get something out of them. Analyze the blog descriptions to see if there is anything in common.
